Vitamin E
-
Several naturally occurring tocopherols possess vitamin E activity;
however, d-a-tocopherol is considered the
most biologically active form.
-
Vitamin E acts physiologically as an antioxidant: serving to prevent the
peroxidation of unsaturated fatty acids (particularly important in cellular
and subcellular membrane phospholipids) by free radicals. In this role,
vitamin E acts in a complementary manner with selenium (Se).
